I love having days off of work. To be more specific, I love having days off of work w/ my mom! :)
The boys (Tom, my dad, Brian, Tom's dad, etc.) have been gone in Canada fishing since Sunday so my mom and I spent most of the past few days together to keep each other company and take advantage of some mother/daughter time. Apparently my mom and I couldn't get enough of each other this weekend....
Weekend Recap:
*Visiting my aunt and uncle Si s& Wes
*Snacking on salty treats during our car rides--both of our guilty pleasures
*Daytime visit to Red Wing shops and riverfront and Harbor Bar
*Staying at Treasure Island Resort & Casino Sunday night
*Laying poolside at my apartment Memorial Day
*Driving around looking at homes
*Going out to restaurants [lots!]
*Lots and lots of girl talk
*Going to Maynards in Excelsior w/ Marqueta
*Watching the Bachelorette, etc.)
....so we decided to take today off to spend one more day together as mother/daughter before the boys return!
The funny thing is, most people would take their day off w/ mom to go shopping or get pedicures, etc.----nope, not me and my mom! We spent the day spring cleaning my apartment. The kind of spring cleaning where you get on your hands & knees and scrub/dust/vacuum every corner, nook and cranny of every square inch until it sparkles like glitter (I may be my mother's daughter--wink, wink!). Yes, it felt good (really good!) to get my apartment clean before the hubby returns, and the crazy part is, my mom actually ENJOYS cleaning (it was her idea to join me on this day off to clean in the first place).....or at least enjoys helping her daughter....so I think we both actually really enjoyed ourselves. After 3+ hours of hard work (and running back to my mom's house to get her vacuum after I realized our key appliance was being borrowed still!), we grabbed some Papa Murphys Veggie DeLite pizza and winded down on the patio to reflect on the weekend. And you know what, I'm glad our day was without new outfits, sexy shoes, pretty nails, etc....... because it is days like these where I am reminded of the happiness in little things in life. It is days like these where I am reminded it is all about the company.
This day....and what it was all about....this is why I love my mom. I love her positive atttitude. I love her constant smile. I love her determination. I love her ability to be happy and excited about the small things in life. I love her pure heart and I love her never-ending abundance of love, care and sacrifice. I love she would do anything for her family.
Mom, I love you!
Until next time,
Brenda
